(Toledo, OH) Lucas County officials are preparing a new jail site in North Toledo.
Lucas County Commissioners Thursday unveiled a 25-acre North Toledo site for a proposed new jail, which would be located along Alexis Road between the former Raceway Park and Raintree Village mobile home community.
County commissioners say the site has utilities and proper zoning, and doesn't encroach on residential neighborhoods. Mobile home park residents found out about the jail from flyers hung on their front doors and some worry the jail will be a safety threat.
There's a community meeting next week to discuss the proposed jail. A levy to pay for construction of the $180 million, 650-inmate jail would appear on the November ballot.
