Toledo Cop May Be Appointed to Council Vacancy

(Toledo, OH) Toledo City Council may fill a vacant seat at its meeting later today.

The Lucas County Democratic Party's executive committee reached into the ranks of Toledo's police department to nominate a replacement for the now-vacant sixth district Toledo city council seat.

Sgt. Chris Delaney would retire from the police force if a Democratic majority on city council appoints him to the seat. The 30-year veteran cop then would have to run in the May primary to retain the seat.

Republican Point Place businessman Jim Nowak ran for the seat last November and will also seek the council appointment.

A game of political musical chairs ensued when then-Lucas County treasurer Wade Kapsukiewicz was elected mayor and city council member Lindsay Webb vacated the seat to replace him as county treasurer.
