Toledo Rail Overpass Could Be Demolished

(Toledo, OH) A rail line wants to remove what's become one of Toledo's busiest pedestrian bridges.

Norfolk-Southern is asking Toledo city officials for permission to demolish the Sumner Street bridge over its tracks to allow for double-stack trains to carry more cargo through the area.

The rail line would tear down the bridge at its own expense. The overpass became a popular pedestrian bridge when Sumner Street was cut off during construction of I-75.

While Norfolk-Southern has torn down two similar bridges along the same rail line, at least one Toledo city councilman wants to meet with neighbors to get their input before giving his blessing.
