Toledo Police, Mayor Announce Program Aimed At Reducing Violence

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo Police Chief George Kral and Mayor Wade Kapszukiwicz announced a number of strategies Monday, aimed at reducing violence in the city.

Toledo Police will begin the grassroots "Not In My House" program next month and continue to use a number of violence reduction strategies, including personnel changes, increased overtime and additional intelligence briefings.

“We are intensifying efforts to enhance safety in our community and apprehend the perpetrators of all gun violence in the city, including the homicides that have occurred this year,” Mayor Kapszukiewicz said. “We will continue this fight until we win it.”

Chief Kral says the department will also continue to use ongoing proactive efforts, including diversions programs and special enforcement operations. He described those efforts to WSPD's Scott Sands:
