(Toledo, OH) Lucas County commissioners plan to announce the proposed location of a new jail sometime in the next 30 days.
County commissioners have been searching for a new location for a Lucas County lock-up ever since organized public opposition forced them to withdraw a South Toledo site near Swan Creek Metropark., schools, and neighborhoods.
Commissioners also pulled back a levy funding plan from the November ballot.
Commissioners are working with the new Toledo city administration on a possible site. Commissioners maintain the 40-year old downtown county jail is unsuitable and unsafe for both corrections officers and inmates.
