TOLEDO, Ohio - An incoming member of the Washington Local Schools board of education has sworn himself into office with the help of a notary.
Patrick Hickey was elected to the WLS board in November and took the oath of office Wednesday afternoon from his former assistant, Sharon Giles. She is also a notary public, who can give an oath of office according to the Ohio Revised Code.
Hickey was formerly the superintendent at Washington Local Schools. He resigned in 2015 amid an internal investigation. As part of the settlement, Hickey was banned from district property including the building in which the Board meets. The Washington Local School Board meets tonight and Hickey's ban is expected to be discussed.
