(Bowling Green, OH) The Salvation Army in Wood County is putting out an urgent call for help.
The Bowling Green-based charity is seeking immediate gift card donations so a holiday food basket and toy distribution can go on as planned later this week. The Salvation Army still needs help to provide both to 250 families during a planned Wednesday giveaway.
The grocery store gift card donations are especially needed so families can buy meat to complete their holiday food baskets. The gift cards can be dropped off at the Bowling Green Salvation Army offices 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. each weekday.
More than 600 Wood County families will receive help this holiday overall.
Meantime, the The Salvation Army in Hancock County is seeking help in the closing days of its red kettle campaign. The charity says donations are down $5,000 compared to last year, but 2016 giving also was down at this time.
The fundraising goal for the Salvation Army is $90,000 this year, with most of the giving done during the last half of December. But only $35,000 has been collected in kettles across the community so far.
