Toledo City Council Considers Raising Tobacco Age

(Toledo, OH)   The legal age to buy tobacco could be rising in Toledo.

Toledo city council held a public hearing Thursday on a measure that would raise the tobacco use age from 18 to 21-years-old.

Supporters of the "Tobacco 21" ordinance say it would lead to fewer young people getting hooked on smoking and save more lives.  Cleveland and Columbus have already passed similar laws.

Public health officials want to raise the legal age to buy tobacco in cities first, then eventually take the Tobacco 21 campaign to the state level.
