LUCASVILLE, Ohio - The execution of a condemned killer has been called off because executioners were unable to find a vein.
WTOL 11 reports the execution of Alva Campbell was called off after more than an hour of trying to find a vein to insert an IV into. There's no word on when or if the state will try again to execute Campbell.
Campbell's lawyers had appealed that he was too ill to execute and suffered from multiple health problems. He had been provided a wedge pillow on the gurney in the execution chamber to assist him in breathing.
Campbell had been sentenced to death for the murder of a teen during a 1997 carjacking.
