(Columbus, OH) More than 500 police agencies now meet new state standards.
Law enforcement agencies representing eight of every ten Ohio police officers are fully certified on new standards governing the use of deadly force.
A governor’s advisory board drafted the new standards after a series of fatal police shootings in Ohio. Those new standards also include recruiting and hiring new officers.
In all, 506 police departments with more than 27,000 officers have either met those standards or are in the process. Agencies that don’t meet them will be listed as noncompliant on an annual list.
