(Maumee, OH) The Toledo Area Humane Society is offering flu vaccines for pooches this weekend to help stop a canine flu outbreak.
The humane society is offering a $25 vaccine to dog owners today and tomorrow from noon to 2 p.m. at its Maumee shelter.
Dozens of confirmed cases of the H3N2 canine flu virus surfaced across suburban Toledo this week. Especially at-risk are pooches who frequent dog parks, doggie day care centers, boarding kennels, pet shows, groomers, and pet stores.
No appointment is necessary for the two-part vaccine. A second dose must be given two-to-three weeks after the first shot before dogs will be immune to canine flu. Meantime, veterinarians continue to be busy fielding calls and questions.
