(Toledo, OH) The port authority and Toledo public schools are partnering on a new school.
TPS officials are offering to make $4.6 million worth of improvements to a now-vacant building at Toledo Express airport that once housed flight simulators. In exchange, the port authority will give free rent for the first six years of a lease deal.
TPS plans to expand its three-year career tech program to become an FAA-certified airplane maintenance technician. The proposed new school Aerospace and Natural Science Academy of Toledo will start classes during the 2018-19 academic year.
The aerospace tech-prep program already is open to all Ohio students, while a full-time academy may help TPS to recruit even more new students. The new STEM academy also will teach natural science and animal care at the airport school.
