(Port Clinton, OH) An Ohio National Guard unit from Port Clinton counts up the hurricane help.
The trips took eight military transport planes to carry the 183 tons of equipment and assets to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, along with 30-plus members of the 200th Red Horse Squadron based at Camp Perry.
Then the group that headed to the Virgin Islands had to tear down a portable base camp and reassemble it twice-- once because of a second hurricane, the second time due to flooding. But the unit still managed to maintain the portable shelters, showers, latrines and laundry for an Army medical corps from Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
The Red Horse group that went to Puerto Rico sent a water purification unit that's helping the island territory hurricane victims have clean drinking water.
