(Monclova, OH) The Metroparks Toledo board is meeting in emergency session today with designs on funding a big trails project.
Metroparks plans to apply for a $13.5 million federal grant aimed at rural transportation.
Metroparks hopes to connect Wiregrass Lake with the Wabash Cannonball Trail-- an 8.5 mile hiking and biking trail known as the Oak Openings Trail. That trail would connect through the Kitty Todd Nature preserve and includes a pedestrian bridge over the Ohio Turnpike near Eber Road.
The federal Department of Transportaiton grant would pay for the entire trail project and require no local matching funds.
