(Toledo, OH) A Toledo medical mission team is back home after serving in Puerto Rico.
15 doctors, medical students and translators spent two weeks on the hurricane-ravaged island, treating the medical issues of more than 1,000 people ranging from broken bones to heart attacks. The group even fixed a polluted water supply.
Native Puerto Rican Maria Gonzalez helped translate among her fellow islanders-- a job she's done on past medical missions. But this one was a bit different because it involves her neighbors and friends.
Gonzalez is president of a group that celebrates its Puerto Rico heritage in Toledo known as Club Taino and says her island homeland still needs help for weeks and months to come.
