Warehouse District Seeking Changes

(Toledo, OH) Downtown Toledo's Warehouse District may get an overhaul.

Living downtown is cool again, based on the increase in multi-unit buildings in the warehouse district jumping from seven to 17 over the past five years. A new master plan calls for new construction, but at street corners that don't imitate the historic structures that already exist in the warehouse district.

That master plan also seeks to reduce the 2,300-plus parking spaces that Warehouse District officials say contributes to blighted areas and detracts from the district's "urban neighborhood" character.

The new master plan seeks to force those commercial and private lots to add fencing, screening, landscaping and lighting to "re-establish the character" of the warehouse district and push for aggressive enforcement of those enhancement laws.
