Gov. Kasich: Tackling Poverty Key To Dealing With Opioid Crisis

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Governor John Kasich says jobs and economic development are two of the long-term answers to solving the problem with opioid addiction.

Tackling poverty in southern Ohio is one way Governor John Kasich says will solve the opioid problem. He told a meeting of media executives that marketing areas like southern Ohio to businesses will help bring jobs to the area.

"So we're taking high-speed internet to southern Ohio. We have to market southern Ohio better. We have to say you'll have a strong workforce, the wages you pay will be good but they'll be competitive with other places," Kasich said in his remarks.

The Governor also pointed to the potency of today's illicit drugs as contributing to the death of Ohioans.
