(Toledo, OH) Toledo's Police Athletic League is knocking out its boxing program, citing the high cost of coaches and equipment.
Officials decided last week to end the group's longtime flagship sport, saying it costs too much amid dwindling participation. Fundraising and grants covered the cost of the program to this point. There's no word whether the 30 Toledo students in the boxing program will continue training elsewhere.
PAL will instead put more resources into baseball, basketball and other sports. There are 200 other kids involved in those programs. PAL also provides homework help among its afterschool activities that help keep kids safe and teach them life lessons.
