Hurricane Help Still Being Sought

(Perrysburg, OH) Recovery will take weeks, so the Red Cross is recruiting more hurricane help.

Assistance is needed so badly, the Findlay Red Cross director himself headed back to hurricane-ravaged Houston a second time Sunday.

The Ohio Red Cross already has sent 100 volunteers to Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia in the past three weeks, but needs to recruit and train 100 new volunteers per week to assist with the response and recovery efforts for the weeks and months to come. Volunteers will receive a one-day orientation followed by quick-strike training so they can head south as soon as possible.

An all-day hurricane help event is planned in Perrysburg. Impact with Hope and the Hilton Garden Inn-Levis Commons are teaming up for a clean-up collection today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the hotel's Commodore Ballroom.

The relief agency will be collecting tarps, non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and clean-up necessities such as shovels, hand tools, gloves, blankets, diapers, and pet food to be shipped to Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia in the coming days and weeks. Impact with Hope is also hoping for monetary help to aid in shipping truckloads of relief supplies.

There will be live entertainment from five to nine this evening and you can sign up to win prizes when dropping off donations.
