TPD Street Cops to Sport Body Cameras

(Toledo, OH) Toledo's entire police force soon will be outfitted with body cameras.

Street officers will wear a next-generation camera, one wear microphones cannot be muted or the footage deleted. More than 300 body cameras will be added to standard-issue equipment over the next few weeks, after testing a similar model with 50 officers back in 2015. At the end of an officer's shift, all the video recorded will be automatically downloaded.

The $350,000  cost came from the city's capital improvement fund and a federal Justice Department grant.
