(Columbus, OH) State health officials are warning of a new phone scam.
The Ohio Department of Health is warning people of callers posing as their staff to get personal information the department would never seek over the phone. Scammers use caller ID technology to make it appear they are calling from a credible phone number.
Sometimes the caller identifies themselves as working on behalf of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or on behalf of a health care provider. The caller often has some sort of personal information about those they are calling, such as name, date of birth, address and their doctor's name. The State Highway Patrol is investigating.
