(Cleveland, OH) Ohio is ranked as the fifth leading state in the nation in the amount of robocalls placed. According to telecommunications software maker YouMail Incorporated, around 97-and-a-half million robocalls were placed last month.
YouMail CEO Alex Quilici explained neighborhood spoofing is a common technique that robocallers use to try to make a connection with someone on the other end of the phone line.
Quilici explained robocallers will call a number with the same area code as where they're calling from in order for it to appear it's a local call on the caller ID. He added residents are more likely to pick up the phone when they see it's a local number, although a robocall.
