(Vermilion, OH) Northwest Ohio plays host to a unique athletic competition this weekend.
The Highlander Games in Vermilion on Saturday is described as a show of raw strength and athletic prowess. The competition combines Highland Games events and Strongman events-- such as a timed stone load, a weight for height throw, a heavy hammer throw, and a farmer's walk where competitors carry two loaded handles as far as they can.
The ancient games celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture-- so you may hear bagpipes and see a lot of kilts among the competitors. There are three divisions of competitors-- lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight.
The top women in the world also will compete in the invitation-only Women's World Heavy Events Championships.
