I-75 Reopens After Armed Standoff

MONROE, Michigan - Interstate 75 has been reopened after a police standoff closed the road for nearly 7 hours.

WTOL 11 reports a male subject lead police on a chase from near Pontiac before being brought to a halt by Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies between Gaynier Road and South Otter Creek. During the chase, officers noticed the subject had a weapon.

After having his car stopped, the man stayed in his car in the southbound lanes of I-75. He told police he was suicidal and also threatened to kill officers. Negotiators were able to talk the man into throwing his weapon out of the car. He was then taken into custody.

The 37-year-old man is being examined by medical professionals. He faces charges of fleeing and alluding and resisting arrest.
