Needle Exchange Program Launched in Toledo

(Toledo, OH) A new needle exchange program is underway in Toledo.

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is offering free clean syringes in exchange for dirty needles with the hope of promoting health and safety in the community in light of the ongoing opoid epidemic.

Health officials are trying to reduce the number of HIV, hepatitis C and STD's and other infections that could be transmitted by sharing dirty needles to shoot up heroin and other drugs.

Residents can swap syringes Tuesday afternoons at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church downtown and Thursday afternoons at the Talbot Center. Each participant will be assigned a numbered I.D. card for tracking purposes.
