Potential Jail Neighbors Argue Against Proposal

(Toledo, OH) Backers of a property tax to build a new Lucas County Jail have lots of work ahead to sell their proposed site.

Dozens of people packed the Reynolds Corner Library last night to argue against the location on Angola Road. County commissioners have declared the jail will be built anyway, using sales tax funding if voters turn down a funding levy.

The jail's would-be neighbors say the jail would ruin the peace and quiet of the area, and increase safety risks from potential escapees. Lucas County voters will decide on the tax issue in November.
