(Toledo, OH) TARTA already plans to try again in 2018.
TARTA's member communities could be asked as early as spring to approve another sales tax issue to put before voters. but this time, transit agency officials will work on a strategic plan for the money that would be raised if voters approve a change from property tax funding to a half-percent sales tax.
The issue was headed to the November ballot before Sylvania Township trustees blocked it, citing the lack of such a strategic plan.
A new sales tax proposal will be ready by January. But TARTA may run into the same opposition from some elected officials who want a smaller sales tax increase, which would be allowed by state law next July.
