Former Miss Kentucky Faces Pot Charge in Lima

(Lima, OH) A former Miss Kentucky is due in court this week, accused of trying to smuggle pot into a Northwest Ohio prison.

28-year-old Kia Hampton of Louisville, Kentucky got busted trying to move a balloon filled with marijuana to an inmate at the Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima.

State troopers monitored recorded phone calls between Miss Kentucky 2011 and the inmate, gathering enough evidence for a cavity search warrant. As officers questioned her, Hampton reached into her pant leg and pushed a white balloon to the floor-- containing nearly three grams of pot.

The first African-American woman ever to be named Miss Kentucky will make her first court appearance Wednesday after being indicted by a grand jury. She faces three years in prison herself if convicted.
