Sylvania Twp. Stops TARTA Sales Tax Plan

(Sylvania Twp., OH) TARTA won't be going to voters with a proposed sales tax increase.

Sylvania Township trustees voted against the proposal Tuesday evening, which will keep the switch from a property tax to a sales tax off the November ballot.

The transit agency needed the approval of all seven member communities to move forward with the plan, which would have hiked the sales tax by half-a-cent and raised $30 million per year.

TARTA officials had hoped to expand bus service and improve roads in member communities. TARTA's two largest member communities-- Sylvania and Toledo-- had yet to take a final vote.
