Community Leaders Split on TARTA Tax Vote

(Maumee, OH) The TARTA tax vote is splitting community leaders.

Sylvania Township Trustees will be the next community to vote on TARTA'S  proposal to switch its funding source from a property tax to a sales tax. That means a half-cent sales tax increase in Lucas County, raising $30 million  per year for operations.

Trustees will vote on the plan during a regular meeting which starts at 5 p.m.

Maumee City Council voted 4-to-3 to approve the plan last night, while a split vote 3-to-3 in Sylvania means the proposal will slow down, with a final decision expected sometime next week.

But Sylvania's mayor has indicated he'll break that tie vote in favor of TARTA and let voters decide in November.
