(Maumee, OH) Two more communities vote tonight on TARTA’s sales tax proposal.
City councils in Sylvania and Maumee are scheduled to vote tonight on the half-cent sales tax increase for the transit agency—and there could be a split vote.
Maumee’s leaders seem content to let voters decide. But some of Sylvania’s elected officials would rather see TARTA wait until next year, when state law would allow a smaller increase of one-tenth of a percent.
In any event, the bus service needs all seven of its member communities to ratify the switch from a property tax to a sales tax before the plan heads to the November ballot for a public vote. TARTA will have a clearer picture by week’s end: Sylvania township trustees vote tomorrow.
