Kroger Closing Southland Store

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Kroger Co. announced Friday that it will close its store in the Southland Shopping Center. The fuel center in front of the store at 1415 Byrne will close as well.

“Closing a store is always a difficult decision. Unfortunately, despite a number of investments in the store over the past years, and our store team’s best efforts, we continued to see profits steadily decline at the Byrne Road store. After the first quarter of this year, it was decided to end operations at this location,” said Bill Green, vice president of Operation for Kroger's Columbus Division, in a written statement.

Approximately 115 employees will be affected by the store's closure. Kroger's says they are offering them employment at other nearby Kroger locations. There are several locations in the area, including a store about a mile away on Glendale.

The store and fuel center will cease operations on Monday, August 14.
