Electric Companies in Territorial Dispute

(Findlay, OH) Findlay is getting caught in the middle of a territorial dispute.

Findlay city council this evening may have to settle an ongoing feud between American Electric Power and the Wood-Hancock Electric Cooperative.

Officials with the co-op are accusing AEP of trying to cherry-pick large commercial power customers from their territory- with the utility getting help from Hancock County economic development officials. The electric co-op alleges AEP has funneled big donations to the economic development agency in return- one contribution as high as $100,000.

There’s an informal 5 p.m. committee of the whole meeting tonight where Findlay city council may decide to step in with legislation to stop the practice on behalf of the co-op.
