TARTA Funding Plan to Get Early Test

(Ottawa Hills, OH) Ottawa Hills village council is expected to vote tonight on TARTA’s proposal to convert its operational funding to a county-wide sales tax.

Council members heard more specifics about the plan during a special meeting last Friday. The transit agency wants to  increase Lucas County’s sales tax by a half-percent to generate 30 million dollars per year, then wipe out its current property tax funding.

Ottawa Hills is the first of several communities whose support is needed to put the proposal on the November ballot. Sylvania and Sylvania Twp. officials are set to vote next week.
