Gun Bills Go Before Ohio General Assembly

(Columbus, OH) Expect a flurry of gun bills to make their way through the Ohio legislature starting this week.

The bill will likely the best chance of passage would remove any legal consequences for carrying a concealed weapon into forbidden places if the person leaves upon request. That bill has 51 sponsors in the Ohio House, a majority and almost assuring passage.

Another bill would widen the chances of a successful self-defense claim by removing a "duty to retreat" before using lethal force-- a so-called "stand your ground" law. That would put the burden of proof on prosecutors in a claim of self-defense during trial.

A third bill would eliminate the need of a conceal-carry permitholders to notify cops they're packing hidden heat during a traffic stop. The Ohio FOP opposes all three bills.
