Crackdown On Landlords With Lead Citations

(Toledo, OH) Toledo is cracking down on landlords who ignore orders to clean up lead hazards.

Toledo's top brass say housing prosecutors will begin serving papers today to landlords cited by the Lucas County Health Department for having lead paint dust in rental units.

More than two-dozen landlords could be hauled into housing court to face civil lawsuits over their refusal to obey the health department.

Meantime, Toledo's mayor and city council are lobbying in Columbus to get state lawmakers to back off a proposal to let the state health department take over lead programs-- and allow the city to be a pilot project with its recent lead-safe law.
