(Akron, OH) A federal judge is being asked to decide whether construction of a natural gas pipeline should continue in northern Ohio.
More than 60 Northeast Ohio property owners want a federal court to block the Nexus natural gas pipeline, claiming the project violates their due process rights, misuses eminent domain to take their property and jeopardizes their safety.
The group wants a court injunction against both federal regulators and Nexus Gas Transmission. The lawsuit contends the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission tricked property owners into waiving their constitutional rights.
The 250-mile, high pressure natural gas pipeline also crosses much of Northwest Ohio, with opponents seeing similar issues. The community of Green also is considering a lawsuit, claiming the pipeline will cause economic harm and hurt environmentally fragile wetlands.
