(Toledo, OH) Toledo city officials say efforts to prevent stormwater runoff appear to be working.
Toledo's top brass say more than two-and-a-half-inches of rain fell this past weekend, causing 128 million gallons of water to overflow into streams. The overflow is more than 200 million gallons less than a similar four-day storm in 2015, before the city separated its storm water and sanitary sewer systems.
Work to separate all the sewers will continue through 2020.
Meantime, all the April rain raised the level of Lake Erie. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says Lake Erie surged between five and seven inches higher than the start of April. Compared to last year, Lake Erie is two inches higher. The other Great Lakes saw similar increases in water levels.
