State Elections Chief Launches Governor Campaign

(Columbus, OH) Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted is launching a statewide tour this week to support his run for governor.

Husted announced Sunday that he will seek the Republican nomination in 2018. Northwest Ohio played a large role in the Facebook video, where Husted prominently mentioned Montpelier as the place where he grew up before his dad lost a factory job forcing his family to move. Montpelier is the only Northwest Ohio stop listed on that statewide tour.

Ohio's top elections official is skipping Toledo, where he's embroiled in an ongoing controversy over a seat on the Lucas County Board of Elections. He's expected to replace a GOP member he kicked off the board with either his own nominee or someone nominated by the Lucas County Republican Party.

The GOP primary is expected to be full next year, with Congressman Jim Renacci [[ reh-NAY-see ]] already in the race and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor expected to jump in.
