Ohio House Debates Two-Year Budget Proposal

COLUMBUS, Ohio - About $64 billion is at steak at the Ohio Statehouse as lawmakers debate the proposed two-year budget.

Ohio's House Democrats are chastising Republicans for sending what the Dems consider an unbalanced budget to the Senate for them to fix. The budget contains 171-million for opioid treatment and education. Some lawmakers have favored tapping the rainy day fund to help fight drug abuse. State Rep Bill Seitz (R-Cincinnati) says that fund would only cover a small amount of the state's spending.

"The fact of the matter is our annual spending is about $66 billion. In this budget, my math tells me that the rainy day fund is there for 3% of our annual spending," Seitz says.

The spending plan now goes to the Senate for consideration.
