(Perrysburg Twp., OH) Owens Community College will bring back sports-- but in a money-saving way.
The school announced baseball and softball would be brought back, but as Division III sports. That means Owens won't have to offer athletic scholarships, saving the school $250,000 per year in financial aid.
Men's and women's basketball and volleyball also will change divisions. All five sports cost more than $1 million annually-- a figure that would be cut nearly in half next academic year. Golf and soccer won't return to the Owens campus in the foreseeable future.
The school just emerged from fiscal watch because of drastically declining enrollment.
