St. Luke's Unveils Germ-Zapping Robot

(Maumee, OH) A robot is helping reduce the risk of infections at St. Luke's Hospital.

St. Luke's Hospital administrators have unveiled the Light Strike robot, a tool that uses ultraviolet light to kill bacteria, viruses and other germs. St. Luke's officials call the germ-zapping robot an investment to enhance patient safety because it will destroy superbugs that can cause infections.

The portable disinfection system is designed to destroy hard-to-kill bugs in hard-to-clean places, including MRSA and Ebola.

The robot is being used to disinfect patients' rooms, operating rooms and the emergency department.
