(Toledo, OH) Toledo city officials are backing off plans to buy One Government Center.
The state-owned high-rise is in such disrepair that tax money would have to be used to make repairs. The city had offered $1 to the state as long as it could repair and maintain the building using only rent money.
State officials rejected the proposal, leaving tax dollars as the only option to fund repairs. Those talks began during the city administration of late mayor Mike Collins. The government building houses many agencies run by the City of Toledo and Lucas County.
