(Whitehouse, OH) A controversial village speed limit may soon be rectified...the right way.
Plans are in the works to change the speed limit on a main road through Whitehouse. Village officials launched talks Wednesday on lowering the speed limit on State Route 64 to 35 miles per hour. State law sets the limit on that stretch of road at 50 miles per hour, but the village says it's not safe.
A traffic study will be performed to determine the proper speed. A 35 mile-per-hour sign was placed on that stretch of road 30 years ago as a ruse to slow down drivers, but ODOT claims the statutory speed is higher because it sits outside the limits of a so-called "urban district."
