Toledo City Council Amends Lead Safe Law

(Toledo, OH) Updates to Toledo's "Lead Safe" law will soon go into effect.

Toledo City Council voted last night to give landlords more time to have their properties inspected for lead paint hazards.

The original mid-September deadline is pushed back to at least June of next year, starting with areas identified as posing the highest risk of poisoning children. Dust wipe tests to determine the presence of lead hazards will remain in effect over the protests of landlords who claim they're not accurate.

Rental property owners say they'll continue to fight the measure. There are 50-thousand homes in Toledo that must be inspected and certifed under the law.
