Landlords, Tenants Demand Fix To "Lead Safe" Law

(Toledo, OH) Proposed changes to Toledo's new "lead safe housing" law don't have the full support of landlords and their tenants.

Dozens of people spoke up during Tuesday night's City Council agenda review meeting, saying the revisions don't go far enough. Rental property owners are pushing for visual inspections like those used in public housing projects instead of lead dust tests.

Some tenants are blaming the more rigorous testing for evictions by landlords who are afraid they'll fail the tests. They support an extension of time landlords would get to remove lead paint hazards.
