Kinder Morgan Reroutes Northern Ohio Pipeline

(Bowling Green, OH) Northern Ohio landowners may be breathing a sigh of relief, as a proposed pipeline is rerouted.

Kinder Morgan had its pipeline plans plugged up by a Wood County lawsuit last fall, when a judge ruled the company could not use eminent-domain rights to force land owners to give an easement. The judge ruled the pipeline is not necessary and not for a public use.

But Kinder Morgan recently dropped a court appeal, telling the Ohio Sixth District Court of Appeals it has acquired a route around the properties at issue. Work is expected to begin later this month on the pipeline that would ship ethane from eastern Ohio's shale fields to Canada, hooking up with an existing pipeline in Michigan. That pipeline will criss-cross 14 Ohio counties.
