(Toledo, OH) The last Toledo-built Jeep Cherokee will roll off the assembly line today.
More than 3,000 Toledo Assembly Plant workers will be laid off at 5 p.m. when their shift ends and Jeep moves production of the SUV to Illinois.
The Jeep plant workers will be off the job until fall, when work on the next-generation Wrangler begins. More than 550 people who worked for Cherokee parts suppliers could be out of work longer. United Auto Workers officials say companies will be hiring soon to make parts for the Wrangler.
