Anglers Turn Out For Start Of Walleye Run

(Toledo, OH) Fishing enthusiasts from all over are casting their lines into the Maumee River in hopes of bagging some walleye.

The annual Walleye Run opened Sunday with anglers shoulder-t0o-shoulder, wading into knee-deep water to take advantage of the fishes' spawning season.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources officials say the walleye are measuring 20 to 30 inches this year. The Walleye Run usually starts when the water temperature hits about 40 degrees.

The Walleye Run continues through April 30th, with fishing available from sun-up to sun-down every day. But you're only allowed to reel in up to four walleye each day.
