COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tax season means it's also prime time for scam artists.
IRS tax season is often irresistible for scam artists. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says to be careful if you get a threatening call from out of the blue.
"We've really seen an uptick in the IRS scam. The IRS scam is basically where you pick up the phone, it's tax season, you answer it and it's somebody supposedly from the IRS whose telling you that you owe them a lot of money," DeWine says.
DeWine says those scam artists rely on threats and scaring people into acting irrationally. The attorney general recommends hanging up. The IRS will send you a letter in the mail if you need to contact them to resolve a problem.
